Warehouse barriers perform a somewhat straight forward task in a warehouse. They are there to create an obstacle that prevents movement or access. Modern barriers such as the Rack Armour plastic barrier system are no different; they are there simply to protect and prevent catastrophic impacts from occurring.

Whilst designing the Rack Armour barrier range we decided not to get drawn into a battle of marketing terminology and fancy names for the product. Instead, we concentrated on creating an efficient, tough product range that doesn’t cost the earth.

Like most great product ranges we started with the basics. In this instance this was our end of aisle barrier for pallet racking protection. Word soon spread of the efficiency and pricing of this range of barriers, and we soon had major brands contact us looking for alternatives to the “overpriced” plastic barrier systems they already had installed on site.

Since then we have developed an extensive pedestrian barrier range which, like all our products is both efficient and extremely cost effective.

Over the past year we’ve been inundated with dozens of businesses wanting to move from their existing barrier provider for a more cost effective yet equally practical option. Something we’re delighted to say we’ve helped out with on every occasion, and still continue to do so.

The perfect way to safely and securely segregate MHE and pedestrians from one another. Our pedestrian barriers are available in two or three rail variants depending on the level of protection required. Made from a tough HDPE this barrier variant is extremely resilient and visually striking, aiming in the first instant to be detected rather than hit.

When a Standard Pedestrian Barrier isn’t enough, our Single Bumper Pedestrian Barrier pairs functionality with increased strength and protection. The single bumper added to the base of the barrier gives this product an increased durability from forklifts and other MHE, further enhancing safety on your site.

The strongest and most durable pedestrian barrier, the Double Bumper Pedestrian Barrier is perfect for segregating extremely busy MHE areas from pedestrians. This barrier has the greatest impact strength out of our entire pedestrian range, a must for busy working warehouses who require a safe passage for staff.

During its inception in 2004, not in their wildest dreams would the team at The Rack Group believe that Rack Armour would be the as successful as it is today. That it would go on to sell in well over eighty countries and manufacture on three continents. That the world’s biggest brands would install and continue to support the product globally, brands such as Wal-Mart, Tesco, BMW, Audi, Office Depot, Lowes, Mercedes, IKEA, Kellogg’s, Kraft, McDonalds, Nestle, Toyota, Pepsico, Coca Cola, DHL, and Eddie Stobart.

Rack Armour was created initially as a product to reduce racking damage for The Rack Group’s biggest customer. The aimwas to produce a cost effective solution that would continually reduce racking repair costs. After looking through the market for existing products, it became obvious there was no such product. Metal protectors easy buckled and dented, often creating more of an issue than a solution. The plastic protectors available on the market at that time were often bulky, taking far too much space from the pick location, again creating a hindrance.

After months of research and testing we came up with the Rack Armour product you see today, a cylindrical HDPE shell teamed with an absorbing foam interior, capable of dissipating impact energy effortlessly. Rack Armour was an instant hit, saving one customer £1,000,000 in racking repair costs in one year alone. Many of the original units are still installed on the original sites after more than eight years, with only the foam needing replacement, highlighting the obvious benefit of installing the guard over anything else.

Word soon spread of Rack Armours effectiveness, with manufacturing operations in the USA and Australia following to cope with global demand, giving Rack Armour a fantastic platform to produce and distribute the product throughout the world.

Then, in 2014, Rack Armour looked to develop a cost effective end of aisle barrier range, something new and existing customers were crying out for due to the lack of options in the market. This barrier range soon expanded through demand from customers, now consisting of over twelve barrier types including pedestrian segregation options.

We firmly believe Rack Armour has changed the face of pallet racking protection over the past twelve years. We’ve helped increase knowledge on the importance of pallet racking protection globally and continue to develop and innovate new, exciting products with the same message. Rack Armour has been the chosen rack protector of the worlds biggest brands for well over 11 years now.
So why is Rack Armour so popular? What makes it different to the many other plastic racking protection products on the market? One main difference is the closed cell foam interior.

Why foam?
The foam inside a Rack Armour unit is what makes the product perform so well when a direct hit is registered. The foam is made up of a dense closed cell polyethylene which renders most large impacts ineffective, in turn reducing rack repair costs significantly.

Other plastic rack protectors on the market can’t utilise this combination which gives our product an obvious advantage. Without the foam, any plastic rack protector is simply only good for deflecting impacts away from the upright, at the end of the day the foam is key.

There are other racking protection products on the market which claim to have a similar, or in some cases, superior impact absorption rate. This simply is not true. In our experience HDPE plastic alone does not have the capacity to diffuse impact energy; it needs somewhere to disperse, such as the foam interior found in a Rack Armour guard.
